I really needed a laugh today. If you do too- you have to see this! I am speaking of the NEW series of laugh-out-loud commercials (that may or may not directly attack the competition) from Dollar Shave Club, the witty and irreverent subscription-based grooming brand. If there’s one thing you do after watching these, I imagine it will be tossing your old razor. I know I need to toss ALL of mine as they are somewhat reminiscent of the ones seen in these spots!
Let’s admit it – we've all tried to take our razors past the brink of effectiveness in an attempt to save a few bucks, right?! But as DSC shows us, a couple of days or weeks past your razor’s prime, you’ll have to face the wrath of the likes of Jacques, the filthy French razor who insists he’s “crusty like a baguette,” and Zeke, the dirtbag razor who’s “so scummy, he swipes right on everything.”
But with Dollar Shave Club, a new blade doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. So stop hoarding the old ones. As in previous ads, CEO and Founder Michael Dubin (whose dive into comedy started at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York, where he performed and studied improvisational comedy as a hobby) appears in the spots, this time stating, “Don’t shave with a filthy razor because new ones are so expensive. Dollar Shave Club, amazing razors for a few bucks… shave with a fresh blade, anytime.”
The brand’s signature wit can seen throughout the fully integrated campaign. Rolling out simultaneously is a #RazorBurn themed series of billboards and other out-of-home ads, in which these crusty characters are seen spewing out comedic “razor burns.”
There is even a #RazorBurn meme generator, available HERE (I suggest you have some fun with the randomize function).
