On a Personal Note

As I post, tweet, and write I always want you to feel as if you are there with me on my journey. Standing beside me and seeing what I see. I have been posting so many wonderful artists' work and sometimes I know one can feel overwhelmed at times by my artistic posts but I wanted you to come see the world with me. There is beauty everywhere and I find different categories of beauty merging more and more as I look around my city. With that being noted...

I am curating my first show thanks to passion, persistence and a great team to work with. The YGallery Salon offered me their walls and I went straight to the streets to find artists to fill them. I decided to showcase one artist at a time to give them their own 15 minutes as they certainly deserve it. My dear friend had shown me these incredibly beautiful portraits around the city and outer boroughs and I decided to reach out to the artist to see if he or she, as they are generally anonymous, were interested in showing in a beautiful salon. Not an art gallery alone per se but YGallery Salon in Soho. A lot of street artists don't want to be in galleries as they view the street as their gallery. Russell King said yes as he was intrigued by the setting. I had seen his work in Soho with another wonderful artist, Matt Siren, yet didn't want to tell him what to put on the walls. We did meet, and yes, I had no idea of his age, race, nothing previously but a voice to recognize him by. We then peaked into the space together along with their Brand Director|Social Strategist and my personal friend Brigitte Segura (Fashion Daily Mag )  and that is when I saw the artist working to determine what piece would go where. I loved the way he spread his arms to figure out measurements! 

The show opens October 17 th, with a VIP reception for press before opening to the public the very next day. I am both scared to death and excited as fear of the unknown can be haunting at times. I have had the pleasure over the past year to meet so many graffiti artists, street artists, muralists, and I see this show as the beginning of a new chapter of my life. 

At 45, I am chasing my dream of merging the beauty and art worlds together. I want to keep showcasing artists at the space as well as being the catalyst to helping beauty brands use actual artists when creating " street" collections. How can you make a graffiti collection without collaborating with actual graffiti artists?! I see street art becoming more embraced by many and I give thanks to all of the people who want to add it into their communities to make them more colorful as well as more inviting.

Russell collaborated with Destroy Rebuild on this show and their work is simply incredible to view. These one of a kind pieces will be available for purchase and I cannot wait to see how this chapter ends....or shall I say.... begins?

YGallery Salon Soho: Pink Peekaboo Bangs and Keratin Treatment Created for Blondes

As I walked into their Soho salon, I saw a lot of local artist's artwork on the walls and I knew I was in the right place! If you follow my IG feed, you'd understand as I often showcase graffiti artists, muralists and all around creative people.

Located at 180 Lafayette Street in Soho, I was pleasantly greeted by owners and Master Stylists Yoni and Yaniv. They are artists in their own right and have spent years styling, cutting and coloring hair. Although I walked in thinking I would not color nor cut my hair- I felt comfortable enough to do both after speaking with Yoni! I was accompanied by a dear friend, Brigitte Segurra of Fashion Daily Mag, and she refrained from telling the stylist anything and watched with amazement at what came next....

Not only did I let owner Yoni give me bangs which I had not rocked for 25 years- I let him dye them pastel pink! They are actually pink peekaboo bangs as Yoni worked the pink into my blonde hair, throughout the bangs and also throughout the bottom layer of my hair. Brigitte was proud of me that I let the artist do his work without any direction from me and also showed me some Fall photos where models integrated pastels into their hair for runway shows. I am an artist, too, so I appreciate the expert doing their work and not telling them what to do. I know that may be unusual yet I let Yoni do whatever he deemed necessary to allow me to look my best. 

I then received a special Keratin treatment created for blondes and within two hours, I had a cut, color and Keratin treatment (in a specially ventilated room in the far corner of the salon)! Yoni is fast! How many times had I sat in the chair for 4-5 hours before? A lot I tell you! 

The services offered at the salon are extensive....haircuts, color, highlights, gloss shine, ombré, blow dry, relaxer, keratin...to name a few. Hair extensions are also offered upon consultation.
