Juara Skincare & More: Gugu Mbatha-Raw

I love Nick's work so am over the moon to be able to write about this uber talented MUA to the stars and his use of Juara skincare among other products. 

Celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose created the gorgeous, glowing look of Gugu Mbatha-Raw using Juara skincare products for her red carpet premiere of ‘Belle’ tonight in NYC.

“Gugu is wearing a green dress that has a gorgeous golden sheen to it.  Her jewelry has purple tones to it, so we went with a subtle eye incorporating purple but keeping it soft. 

The whole look tonight is fresh, spring, sun kissed skin with soft, plum smokey eyes and peach lips and cheeks.

I began by prepping Gugu’s skin with the Juara Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner, which gave her a bit of hydration.  Since the weather’s getting warmer, I used Juara’s Sweet Black Tea & Ginger Mattefying Moisturizer to keep the skin from turning oily on the red carpet.  I massaged it into her skin thoroughly using my fingertips and let it absorb.  Even though the product is great at controlling oils, it still leaves the skin supple and creates the perfect canvas for makeup.  Next, I gently massaged in Juara’s Sweet Black Tea Eye Crème to prep under the eyes and on the lids, and then blotted with a tissue.

I created soft, plum smokey eyes using the Tom Ford Eyes Colour Palette in Lavender Lust.  To add lift and elongate her eye shape, I applied two coats of Votre Vu’s Eiffel Power mascara, concentrating on the outer corners.

For her lips, I applied Chanel’s Glossimer in 119, a soft, peachy tone gloss.

Since she’s wearing a sleeveless dress tonight and the weather is a bit warmer, I gently massaged the Juara Tiare Jasmine Tea Body Milk into her shoulders and arms.  Body milk is perfect for warmer weather since it’s not too thick, gives the perfect amount of hydration and brings out a subtle sheen in the warmer weather, whereas a regular body moisturizer or crème would be too heavy.”

Body Oils vs. Body Lotions

I know I get confused at the stores and counters sometimes as to what does what when it comes to lotions vs. oils and Beauty & Skin Expert Gregorie Guillaume breaks down the difference between Body Potions & Lotions and shares her choices for this season.

There are 16 shades available in the Dream Wonder Powder collection and my Porcelain Ivory applied effortlessly. The Dream Wonder Powder uses wet process technology that has an ultra fine creamy texture that leaves your skin looking silky soft.

New Springtime Scent from Bond No. 9: Hudson Yards

Just being in a Bond No. 9 store gets me super excited as I feel as if I am in a museum of art. All of the wonderfully creative colors and designs of the bottles help keep the artist in me alive and I find their scents intoxicating.

Some of the most iconic streets and neighborhoods are named in their eau de parfum scents and now added is Hudson Yards, an area that is in the process of being built as I write! It is the area bordering on Chelsea (my hood) and Hell's Kitchen and close enough to the Hudson River to catch a whiff of waterway. Under construction as we speak, Hudson Yards is being transformed from a parking lot into an honest to goodness future world. There will be sleek, slim skyline-altering buildings, cultural venues, a self contained boulevard, a subway station and New York's semiannual Fashion Week may well decamp there, too! Did I mention a ferry terminal, too?!

The area will surely set the tone for the future of urban landscapes worldwide and when it came to the Eau de Parfum's bottle design- only one color would do- near-neon, iridescent chartreuse. It shimmers too as the glass surface is laser etched with the step and repeat pattern of the Bond No. 9 circular signature token. Around the neck rests a ripening cloth flower blossom in matching chartreuse.

Top notes are Wet Petals of Lily of the Valley, Sparkling Freesia and Pink Pepper Oil. Middle include Peony Buds, Rose Oil Bulgaria and Vibrant Lychee. Bottom notes are Orange Flower Absolute, Iris Absolute and White Ray of Musk.

Mally Beauty: Evercolor Shadow Stick, Evercolor Poreless Face Defender and More!

There aren't enough kind words I can say about the pre-med turned celebrity makeup artist as I find Mally to be a kind, courteous, caring, thoughtful and generous person. Plus she makes GREAT products that are as wonderful as her personality! Birchbox recently hosted an event with Mally and although I could not be present, I still got the "Mally love"...

I have been a "fan/follwer" of hers for quite sometime and find her among the most interactive social media MUA's I know! She responds to fans/followers tweets and IG posts, gives great and personal advice and also incorporates her family and love of God into her daily posts. I find her absolutely delightful so I felt more than blessed to be able to review some of the newer products in her line.

The Evercolor Shadow Stick ( $ 25) applied effortlessly without any creasing throughout the day. There are 16 shades available and I reviewed Rosy Taupe which suited me perfectly. All shades are considered what Mally calls "bulletproof" meaning- they do not budge! They are also said to bring out the white in your eyes making your eyes appear more radiant. Colors available are: Dusk, Rosy Taupe (worn in picture with mascara), Deep Plum, Champagne, Saddle Shimmer, Angel Shimmer, Bronze, Brown, Topaz, Nautical, Copper Rose, Green, Gunmetal, Platinum, Plum and Twilight.

Next was the incredible Volumizing Mascara ( $ 20) in Black that added volume and an instant boost as it made my lashes really curl up and out and their length nearly doubled! I did apply two coats and found it to be non clumping nor flaky.

 

 

Mally's High Shine Liquid Lipstick ($ 20) was so pretty in Apricot. I am known for my signature red lips so it took a lot for me to try the neutral tone. I know that may sound silly but I feel most comfortable in blue reds yet everyone is rocking nudes now. With that being said, people loved the way it looked on me as it gave me a softer and younger overall look. My lips appeared more full, too. You simply click up the pen until the color appears through the brush and fill in your *gorgois lips. *Mally uses the word gorgois, so it is not a typo! This is your liner, lipstick and gloss all in one product.

Lastly I tried the Evercolor Poreless Face Defender ($ 40) and it is amazois! You simply swirl the applicator in the product and softly pat it all over your face. The formula yields a water-clear, featherweight product that diffuses the look of pores, fine lines and helps your makeup stay put. The applicator can get those hard to reach places such as the inner corners of your eyes or the indentations of your nose. The sponge is awesome!
